Adopted in 1978, Sri Lanka’s flag is one of the most unusual. A yellow/orange base serves as the background for two separate symbols. On the left are two equally sized vertical stripes – green and orange – floating within the base. To the right, and at twice the width of the vertical stripes – also floating on the yellow/orange background – is a crimson rectangle charged with a golden, sword-wielding, left-facing lion in the center. Each inner corner of the rectangle is charged with a similarly colored pipul leaf.
